Pep Guardiola Reveals How Much He Loves Manchester Food

Pep Guardiola has revealed he is enjoying life at Manchester City – even if Mediterranean food is ‘much better’ than what is on offer.

Pep Guardiola has immersed himself in Manchester’s culture since taking charge at the Etihad last summer and lives in a plush apartment in the city with his wife and two children.

Guardiola has regularly been spotted out and about in Manchester at hot spots ranging from Bem Brazil on King Street to Revolucion de Cuba on Deansgate in recent months.

And, a year on from his appointment, the 46-year-old admits the rain has not put him off after guiding the Blues to third place in the Premier League in his first season.

“[I’m enjoying it] a lot,” he told fan Alex Naylor as part of Betsafe’s #AskTheManager campaign

“I know it’s not the best weather in the world, I know it’s not the most beautiful city in the world but that’s what makes Manchester so special.”

Guardiola’s wide-ranging career in football has seen him play in Spain, Italy, Qatar and Mexico and manage Barcelona, Bayern Munich and, of course, City.

But it seems the one thing he has yet to get to grips with is traditional British grub.

“I’m a Catalan guy so Mediterranean food is much better than yours, I’m sorry, in that we are better.

“If you don’t agree you should go to Italy and Spain in the summer time because the food is better than here.”

Guardiola was a regular at Oktoberfest while managing Bayern Munich and soon became acquainted with Bavaria’s finest lagers.

But one local tipple he has has yet to sample is Boddingtons – made famous by Melanie Sykes and that advert in 1992.

“The first time I will try Manchester Boddingtons, I will tell you which I prefer because I’ve never tried Manchester Boddingtons,” he admits.
